URBAN KIZ
is a partner dance and a modern evolution of the Afro-Caribbean partner dance, Kizomba. Kizomba originated in Angola, Cape Verde, and surrounding regions, making its way to Europe between the 1980s and early 2000s. Urban Kiz adapts the traditional style to modern music, incorporating elements from hip-hop, R&B, ghetto-zouk, afrobeats, electronic beats, and other genres.
Urban Kiz is known for its faster-paced music, dynamic shifts in tempo, and intricate transitions, such as accelerations, breaks, and slower moments. The dance style features stops, taps, isolations, syncopations, and more complex footwork, including pivots and pirouettes. With sharper movements and energetic patterns, Urban Kiz is typically danced on straight lines, grids, and crosses, contrasting the circular patterns of traditional Kizomba.
